Creating a Debian server for a small non-profit

Installation

  • Boot from Debian sarge netinst CD
  • Configure disks as follows:
    • 2 disks - both masters on their controllers (assuming ATA)
    • 1 Gb ext3 /boot RAID1
    • The rest of the disks as a single RAID1 partition given to LVM
    • Create a volume group called vg00
    • Create logical volumes:
      • 4 Gb swap
      • 3 Gb reiserfs /
      • 8 Gb reiserfs /var
      • any additional space should be allocated to appropriate data volumes like /home
